ELMER I. JENKS

Elmer I. Jenks, who is the owner and publisher of the Dunsmuir News, one of the most popular newspaper of the Sacramento valley, is a native son of California, his birth having occurred in Glenn county, January 17, 1891. He is a son of Henry Stone and Mary Frances (Leifried) Jenks. The former was born in the state of Illinois, and came to California when he was fifteen years old with his father, Isaac Jenks. He was engaged in railroad work for over a quarter century with Southern Pacific and he lives at Yolo.

Elmer I. Jenks was educated in the grade and high schools at Willows, California. He first learned the printing business on the Willow Review, with which he remained until 1913, when he went to Woodland, where he was connected with a printing office until 1916. In that year he went to Mount Shasta, and after one year went to Yerington, Nevada, remaining for a brief time. His next step was to return to Woodland, where he stayed until 1920, then he came to Dunsmuir and here he purchased the Dunsmuir News, which he has successfully conducted ever since. Mr. Jenks has shown decided ability in newspaper work, and has made the News, a most attractive sheet, with clean make-up, and interesting and forceful editorial character. This paper is an advertising medium for a large section. He belongs to the Masonic Blue Lodge, No. 297, at Dunsmuir, to the Sciots, and the Lions Club, and is active in all municipal affairs. Golfing is his favorite diversion.

In 1915 Mr. Jenks was married to Miss Clarissa Voisard, a daughter of Edouard and Caroline (Giguierre) Voisard. The father now deceased, was a farmer and resided near Yolo, while the mother now lives in the same house where she was born, also near Yolo. Mr. And Mrs. Jenks have one daughter, Helen Claire, who is attending the local high school.
