NATHAN D. WISE
One
of the leading business men of East Nicolaus, Sutter County, is Nathan D. Wise,
who handles a general line of insurance, and is meeting with success. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on the 14th
of November, 1898, he is a son of Leon and Bessie Wise, who still live in
Chicago, where the father is a painting and decorating contractor. He is a brother of John A. Wise, one of East
Nicolaus’ leading men of affairs.
Nathan
D. Wise acquired his education in the public schools of Chicago and in 1914
came to East Nicolaus to join his uncle, John A. Wise, with whom he has been in
close business cooperation ever since.
He completed his studies after coming here, graduating from the
Marysville Union high school. In
partnership with his uncle he established and conducted the East Nicolaus
Market and Grocery, in the Odd Fellows building from 1924 to 1927. This proved a profitable venture and the
store was sold in 1927. Since then Mr.
Wise has become interested in the insurance business, representing the Norwich
Union Fire Insurance company, the Norwich Union Indemnity Company and the
Northern Life Insurance Company. He is
an energetic and wide-awake business man and has made an excellent record in
his present line, even in the face of strong competition from Sacramento,
Marysville and Yuba City. A young man of
clean habits, staunch integrity and pleasing personality, he is well liked by
all who know him. He is a member of the
Free and Accepted Masons and the Ancient Egyptian Order of Sciots at
Marysville, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at East Nicolaus, of which
he is a past noble grand.
