ALFRED IRVING
Harry
Alfred Irving, president of Carmel Canning Company, Pratt-Low Preserving
Company, etc., was born March 14, 1883, in Denver, Colorado. He is the son of
Harry and Sarah Jane (Remington) Irving. After graduating from high school he
took special courses in engineering and industry.
Mr. Irving has been engaged in the
canning business since 1903. He has been president of Carmel Canning Company,
San Francisco, since 1940; president of Pratt-Low Preserving Company, Santa
Clara, California, since 1945; owner of H. A. Irving Company of San Francisco;
director of Atlantic Coast Fish Company of Boston, Massachusetts, and Canners
League of California. He pioneered and organized the California Sardine
Products Institute, the leading association of fish packers, and served as its
first president for five years.
He is member of several War
Production Board Committees, and United States Fishery Advisory Committee of
Department of Agriculture. Republican. Episcopalian. Member of the following
clubs: Commonwealth, Olympic Engineers, and Menlo Country (Redwood City,
California). Mason and Shriner.
Mr. Irving married Norma E. Dickerman on January 26, 1918. Their home is at 283 Park
Lane, Atherton, California.
