CHRISTIAN de GUIGNE, III

 

 

            Christian de Guigne, III, president of Stauffer Chemical Company, was born in San Mateo, California, on August 26, 1912; the son of Christian de Guigne, Jr. and Marie Louise (Elkins) de Guigne.

            Attended Hillsborough public school; then Gunnery school at Washington, Connecticut; graduated from the Hun school, Princeton, New Jersey, in 1932; student at Harvard University for one year.

            Mr. de Guigne started his career with the Stauffer Chemical Company in January of 1934, spending several months in the plants.  In 1935 he started in the main office in San Francisco, where he became a vice president and director in 1942, and has been president since April of 1946; also director of The Bank of California, Parrott Investment Company, Consolidated Chemical Industries, Inc., and Bankers Investment Company.

            In July of 1942 he was commissioned as second lieutenant, Marine Corps, and served as air combat intelligence officer in the South Pacific.  He went on inactive status as captain in December of 1945; major in United States Marine Corps Reserve since November of 1951.

            Mr. de Guigne is a member of the following clubs:  Pacific Union, Bohemian, Burlingame Country (San Francisco); The Brook, Racquet and Tennis (New York); The Jockey, and The Travelers (Paris, France).

            On July 27, 1935, he married Eleanor Christenson and they have two sons:  Christian de Guigne IV, born March 13, 1937, and Charles de Guigne, born April 23, 1939.  Their home is in San Mateo, California, at 891 Crystal Springs Road.
