Biographies
LINGAN
ALAN WARREN
Lingan Alan Warren, president of Safeway Stores,
Inc., was born August 28, 1889, in Norfolk County, Virginia. The son of John
Jay and Sarah Elizabeth (Lynch) Warren, he obtained his education in the public
schools.
Mr. Warren began his career in a
newspaper office in 1905. From 1907 to 1910 he was with the Lumber Trade
Association, Norfolk, Virginia; then with Trexler
Lumber Company successively at Norfolk, Virginia, and Allentown and
Jacksonville, Florida, 1910 to 1912. He operated his own timber brokerage
business from 1914 to 1924 and then organized and operated a wood-working
business in Jacksonville, Florida, 1928; new business executive for Merrill,
Lynch & Company, investments securities, New York, 1931. In 1931 he became
executive for the Safeway Stores, Inc., at Oakland, California, and has been
president of same since 1934.
Member of the following clubs:
Burlingame (California) Country; San Francisco Golf, and Pacific-Union (San
Francisco).
Mr. Warren married Sara Denham on
April 26, 1916, and has one daughter, Mary Elizabeth.
