Biographies
GEORGE TOLAND CAMERON
George Toland Cameron, publisher of the San Francisco Chronicle,
was born in Red Bluff, California, on March 16, 1873; son of James Strong and
Augusta (Gerke) Cameron He obtained his education at
the Cogswell Polytechnic School, San Francisco.
In 1905 Mr. Cameron organized the
Pacific Oil Transportation Company, builders of the pipe line from Coalinga to
Monterey, California. He built the pipe line from Bakersfield to Port Costa,
California, for Associated Oil Company. President of Santa Cruz Portland Cement
Company since 1908; organizer and president (1911) of the Universal Oil
Company; publisher of the San Francisco Chronicle and president of the
Chronicle Publishing Company since 1925. Trustee of Cypress Lawn
Cemetery Association.
Mr. Cameron is a member of the
following clubs: Bohemian, San Francisco Golf and Country, Burlingame Country,
and Pacific Union. Republican.
Mr. Cameron married Helen Margaret
de Young on November 30, 1908. They make their home in Burlingame, California.
