Incorporated communities within San Mateo County are: Atherton, Burlingame, Daly City, Hillsborough, Lawndale, Menlo Park, Redwood City (County C.), San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo and South San Francisco.

 

Land area, 477 square miles.

 

Altitude varies from sea level on bay and ocean shores to 2,555 feet on mountainous ridge of the peninsula.

 

Length of paved highways, 175 miles, which include the world-famous El Camino Real.  Greatly increased mileage will result from the beautiful Skyline Boulevard and the Bay Shore Highway, and the Ocean Shore Highway, under organization.

 

Notable and extensive parks among the California Redwoods are: County Memorial Park, Islam Redwoods Shrine Park and the Native Sons’ Park.

 

In the lake country are found Crystal Springs Lakes, San Andreas Lake, Emerald Lake, Searsville Lake, and Pilarcitos Lake, as scenic attractions.

 

In the redwood forest along the La Honda Canyon Highway to the ocean shore are resorts such as Bonzagni’s Forest Lodge, Big Tree Inn, Troutmere and La Honda.

 

Ocean shore playgrounds are found near Pescadero, Pebble Beach, San Gregorio, Purisima, Halfmoon Bay, Martin's Beach, Miramar, Granada, Princeton, Moss Beach, Sandy Beach, Rockaway, Brighton and Salada Beach.

 

South San Francisco has 29 industries, capitalized at $31 million, employing 3,500 people, within annual payroll of $7 million.

 

Redwood City is next with 18 industries and $2 million payroll.

 

Other communities having industries are Colma 14, San Mateo 12, Burlingame 5, Daly City 4, San Bruno, Millbrae and Leslie 2 each, and Menlo Park 1.  Total in County, 89.
