MARTIN POLIN
Martin Polin, lawyer, was born July 15, 1916, in San Luis Obispo County, California. He is the son of Dr. Oscar Martin and Elizabeth Marie (Busch).
The late Dr. Oscar Martin Polin was born in Alma, Wisconsin; a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Dentistry; a practicing dentist; a dairy owner and rancher; the owner of one-half of the Oceanview Orchards subdivision, San Luis Obispo County, California; owner of a cattle ranch in Sonora, Mexico and a wheat ranch in Alberta, Canada.
Elizabeth Marie (Busch) Polin, too, was born in Alma, Wisconsin, continues as owner of the San Luis Obispo County ranches, is also the owner of Busch Springs and Mountain Ranch on the Russian River, Mendocino County, California.
Dr. Polin’s father was Martin Polin, born in Zillis, Switzerland. He fought in the Civil War on the side of the Union in five major engagements, became a merchant in Alma, Wisconsin, and in 1886 purchased a ranch in the Carissa Plains, San Luis Obispo County, California, residing with his wife in that County.
His wife, Magdalena Liesch Polin, the daughter of an innkeeper, was born in Schersch, Graubunden, Switzerland.
Elizabeth Marie (Busch) Polin’s father was John T. Busch, whose grandfather was Georg Busch of Hamburg, Germany, well known philanthrophist (sic) and author of books on higher mathematics. John T. Busch was born near St. Charles, Missouri. As a young man he was a surveyor and guide, afterwards becoming an insurance representative for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of New York. His later years were spent in developing his Busch Mineral Springs and Mountain Ranch in Mendocino County, California, on which arises the highest source of the Russian River.
Martin Polin graduated from the San Luis Obispo High School in 1934, where he served as president of Student Body and also of California Scholarship Federation, and received the Y.M.C.A. All-Around Student Award; received the Scholarship Award from Menlo School and Junior College in 1934; Lower Division Honors from Stanford University in 1936; received the degree of A.B. from Stanford University (Basic Medical Sciences and Social Science Major-Economics, Political Science and History, 1939); received the George E. Crothers Law School Scholarship Award, Stanford Law School, 1941; student in International Problems, George Washington University, 1943; Berlitz School of Languages, Washington, D.C., 1943; received the LL.B. degree from Harvard Law School in 1945; University of California Extension Student, International Affairs, 1949.
Mr. Polin was admitted to the bar in San Francisco, California, on December 2, 1947, and from 1947 to 1948 was in the San Luis Obispo District Attorney’s office. Since 1949 he has practiced individually in San Luis Obispo, California.

Owner of Martin Laboratories, San Luis Obispo, California, manufacturing chemical compounds; a licensed Real Estate Broker, State of California; manager of family ranches, San Luis Obispo County, California.
Mr.
Polin is single. His ancestry is Danish, English,
German, Irish, Romansh, Scotch, and Swiss. His avocation is international
welfare. He served as first chairman of Stanford Inter-Faith Council, organized
at Stanford University, 1940; Mediator for National War Labor Board,
Washington, D.C., 1942-43; Associate Economist, reviewing decisions of Western
United States Regional War Labor Boards, for National War Labor Board, 1943-44;
appointment with Foreign Service Auxiliary of United States Department of
State, 1943.
