Dates in different bodies are as follows:
Ancient Free and Accepted Masons date from the creation of light, calling it Anno Lucis, which they abbreviate A. L., signifying In the Year of Light. The present year A. L. 5923 is obtained by adding 4000 to the Vulgar Era. Thus 4000 and 1923 - 5923
Royal Arch Masons date from the year in which Zerubbabel began to build the second temple, 530 years B. C., calling it Anno Inventions, which they abbreviate A. Inv. 2453 is obtained by adding 530 to the Vulgar Era. Thus 530 and 1923 - 2453.
Royal and Select Masters date from the year in which Solomon's Temple was completed, calling it Anno Depositionis, which they abbreviate A. Dep., signifying Year of Deposit. The present year, A. Dep. 2923 is obtained by adding 1000to the Vulgar Era. Thus 1000 and 1923 - 2923.
Knights Templar date from the organization of their order, A. D. 1118, calling it Anno Ordinis, which they abbreviate A. O., signifying Year of the Order. The present year A. O. 805 is obtained by subtracting 1118 from the Vulgar Era. Thus 1118 from 1923 - 805.
Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry date from the Hebrew Year, calling it Anno Mundi, which they abbreviate A. M., signifying In the Year of the World. The present year, A. M. 5683 is obtained by adding 3760 to the Vulgar Era. Thus 3760 and 1923 - 5683. The New Year, 5684, will begin September 22, 1923, at sunset.
Sciots, so called, from organization of Masonic Neighborhood Leagues existing in the Isle of Scio, near Greece, in the Aegean Sea, about 1160 B. C. Modern organization occurred in San Francisco, 1906, so that 1923 is the 17th Sciot Year.
Members of the Eastern Star date from the Year of the Rite, A. D. 1850, at which time the degrees were arranged by Brother Robert Morris of Kentucky. The present year A. R. 73 is obtained by subtracting 1850 from the Vulgar Era. Thus 1850 from 1923 - 73.
