JOSEPH PRATT
JOSEPH PRATT, a farmer of
O’Neil Township, San Joaquin County, was born in Portland, Maine. When ten
years of age he went to Cambridgeport, Massachusetts, and in 1849 he came to
California by way of Cape Horn, on the ship Edward Everett, and landed in San
Francisco after a six months’ voyage. He went to Sacramento, where he engaged
in the hay and grain business. After that he went in partnership with Mr. Fogg,
and they kept a store on Bear river, Placer County. He next engaged in building
houses in Sacramento, for the purpose of renting. Finally he bought a farm
situated about six miles east of Stockton, where he has resided ever since,
principally engaged in raising wheat. He has a pleasant, quiet home, partly
hidden from view by shade trees. His sister, Mrs. C. S. Richardson, resides at
his home.
