STEPHEN N. BLEWETT

 

 

            Stephen N. Blewett, attorney, was born in St. Ives, Cornwall, England, on January 4, 1890.  He is the son of Frank and Jane Penberthy (Noall) Blewett.  He was brought to the United States in April of 1903 and naturalized in 1911.

            He obtained his education in the public grade and high schools of Stockton, California; then studied law under Judge J. B. Webster and was admitted to the State Bar of California on July 17, 1911.

            Mr. Blewett entered law practice at Stockton, California, as member of the firm of Webster, Webster & Blewett.  In 1925 he formed a partnership with M. G. Woodward and H. H. Briggs under the firm name of Woodward, Briggs & Blewett; then in 1940 he became a member of the firm of Blewett & Blewett (now Blewett, Blewett, Macey & Garretson).  He served as Referee in Bankruptcy for the counties of Calaveras, Tuolumne, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus, California, from 1925to 1945.

            Member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California, San Joaquin County Bar Association (president, 1916-17 and 1933-34); Mason (32nd degree); San Joaquin Lodge No. 19, F. & A. M., Stockton Consistory No. 11 of Stockton; Ancient Egyptian Order of Sciots; Pharoah (head of Order in 1931); Ben Ali Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Sacramento; member of Truth Lodge No. 55, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Stockton Lodge B.P.O. Elks; member of the Lion’s Club and High Twelve Club, both of Stockton, California.

            On August 12, 1911, Mr. Blewett married Bess E. Simard and they have three sons:  Robert N., born in 1915; Stephen E., born in 1917; and Richard E., born in 1920 (deceased).  The family home is in Stockton, California, at 722 South Regent Street.
