LUCIUS EDWIN ASHLEY
L. E. ASHLEY, farmer of
Castoria Township, was born in Pennsylvania, in 1840. When four years of age he
was taken to Wisconsin, and in 1852 he crossed the plains for California. He
lost his mother on the plains, and, although but twelve years of age, the grief
caused by her death spoiled all the pleasure he might have derived from the
trip. He settled on a farm about five miles from Stockton, and came to the
ranch on which he now resides in 1882. The ranch contains 1,000 acres, which
are chiefly devoted to the raising of stock and grain and owned by Dr. A.
Clark.
He was married to Miss Emma Brannack, a
native of Michigan, born in 1846. They have two children living and two are
dead. The name of the living are, Ida E. and Georgietta. Albert died in 1869,
and Alfred in 1880.
