W. J. NEILON
The fact that W. J. Neilon has held the office of county clerk of Siskiyou county continuously for twenty-four years is in itself
notable proof of the ability and character of the man, as well as of his
personal popularity in this county. He
was born in Siskiyou county, and is a member of a
pioneer family.
He
was educated in the grade and high schools, and in 1900 became identified with
political affairs. In that year he was
appointed deputy county clerk, in which capacity he served six years, after
which he was elected to the office of county clerk. He is still serving, having been reelected at
the end of each term, and six times without an opponent. He has ably performed the duties of the
office, is courteous and accommodating to all who have business with him, and
has demonstrated his belief in the political maxim that a “Public office is a
public trust.”
In 1920 Mr. Neilon
was united in marriage to Miss Ethel M. Cooper, who was born and reared in
California, and is a daughter of G. W. and Lena (Harter) Cooper. Mr. Neilon is a
member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks at Ashland, Oregon, and the
Fraternal Order of Eagles at Yreka. He
owns his home in Yreka and is regarded as one of the most useful and substantial
citizens of his community.
