J. A. MUSOLINO
Among
the successful merchants of Weed, Siskiyou County, whose prosperity is the
outcome of persistent and well directed effort, is J. A. Musolino,
who conducts an extensive grocery and meat business. He was born in Italy on the 29th
of November, 1890, and is a son of Pasquale and Mary (Zappia)
Musolino, who still live on their home farm in that
country. J. A. Musolino
was educated in the schools of his native land and was reared at home until the
age of seventeen years, when he came to America. Landing at the port of New York, he proceeded
to Montreal, Canada, where he remained for three months. Going from there to the state of Washington,
and thence to Oregon, he was in the employ of the Southern Pacific Railroad for
about six months. In 1908 he came to
Weed and for six or seven years was employed in the Weed Lumber Company’s box
factory. He then went to Sunnyside,
Utah, where he was employed to conduct a bakery for three years, after which he
located in Delta, near Redding, Shasta County, California, where he engaged in
ranching for one year. He again came to
Weed and for three years was employed in the sawmill
of the Weed Lumber Company after which he took a sixteen months’ trip to Europe,
visiting his parents in Italy. On his
return to this country, he remained in New York City for a short time, then
again located in Weed. Soon afterward he
went to Merced Falls, where for three months he worked in a box factory. At the end of that time he returned to Weed
and opened a meat shop. This proving a
successful venture, he later added a grocery department and continuous
prosperity has attended his efforts here in the mercantile line. His meats, groceries and vegetables are
strictly fresh, are kept under the best sanitary conditions, and are served to
his patrons courteously and with constant thought of giving them full value and
entire satisfaction. He maintains a
delivery and employs two or three persons constantly. In his store, which is located on the main
highway, he carries a stock valued at about four thousand dollars, which is
turned over many times in the course of a year.
Politically,
Mr. Musolino gives his support to the Democratic
Party and has shown an active interest in matters relating to the public
welfare. He is a member of the Sons of
Italy, the Foresters of America, the Loyal Order of Moose at Weed and the
United Ancient Order of Druids. He does
not aspire to public office, but is content to live up to the highest ideals of
good citizenship, be fair and honorable in all his relations with his fellowmen
and thus enjoy their respect and confidence.
