C. S. KNODLE, JR.
One of the prominent younger business men of Siskiyou county, is C. S. Knodle, Jr., who is the owner of the attractive Shamrock Auto Camp and Resort, which is situated five miles south of Yreka, on the main highway from Los Angeles to the Canadian line. He has been a resident of Yreka only a short time, but during this period has developed a camp for the traveler which is proving very popular, as the rapidly growing business indicates. He has seven acres of land, on which are pine and oak trees, and he has completed ten cabins, with every modern convenience round, and he carries a complete stock of gas, oil, groceries, and tires, and also does auto repair work.
Mr. Knodle was born in the state of Nebraska, July 13, 1901, a son of C. S. and Grace M. (Hanna) Knodle. The father, who has been a railroad man nearly all of his life, is now in Idaho, and has been in the employ of the Union Pacific for the past twenty years. For a quarter century, he was also with the Burlington Railroad in Washington. He is eligible for retirement, but chooses to remain in active pursuits, as he loves railroading. His wife resides with her son at the Shamrock camp, and will be joined by her husband when he eventually retires.
C. S. Knodle attended grade and high schools in Idaho, and then entered the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. For five years thereafter he engaged in the stock business, then spent two years with an insurance company at Portland, Oregon, as an adjuster. For four years subsequent to this, he was with the forestry service in Wyoming and Yellowstone park as a ranger. When the United States entered the World war in 1917, Mr. Knodle offered his service to his country, but was rejected on account of faulty hearing. In 1930 he came to Yreka, where he purchased his present property. In politics he votes independently. He is a member of Blackfoot Lodge, No. 33, A. F. & A. M., at Grove City, Idaho, and the Scottish Rite bodies.
