FRANK A. KING
Frank A. King is one of the enterprising and progressive
farmers of Siskiyou county and through his well
directed and persistent efforts has attained substantial success. He was born
near Edgewood, this county, and is a son of Frank J. and Carrie Ann
(Tyler) King. His father, who was born near Montague,
followed ranching and the stock business during the major portion of his life.
During his early life he drove a stage from California points into Oregon, and
hauled supplies for the Southern Pacific Railroad during its construction. He
now lives at Fruto, Glenn county,
this state, where he owns a stock ranch of eight thousand five hundred acres
and was cattle king of Glenn county in 1929, running as high as
1,400 head. He is a democrat in his political views. To him and his wife
were born three children, namely: Frank A., of this review; Jesse, who was
accidentally killed when a gun fell and exploded; and William H., who runs
a service station on the main highway, three miles north of Weed, and is also
the manager in this district for the Richfield Oil Company. Mr. King’s
maternal grandfather Mr. Tyler was a freighter running pack trains from
Red Bluff, California, to Oregon points. This was his occupation for many
years. Later in life he engaged in stock raising and
did some dairying on the present ranch of F. A. King, the subject of
this sketch.
Frank A. King received his education in the public
schools of Siskiyou county, after which he took a
business course at Ashland, Oregon. He has since devoted his attention to
farming and has a well improved place of two hundred and seventy acres, four
miles from Weed, about one hundred acres being under cultivation, in addition
to which he rents two hundred acres of pasture land. He has a dairy with
seventeen high grade milch cows, and has forty head
of calves. He carries on general farming, also raising hogs and chickens, and
through his good management has realized a measure of success which testifies
to his judgment and ability.
Mr. King was united in marriage to Miss Grace Viola
Bryant, whose parents were from Humboldt county, this
state. Mr. and Mrs. King are the parents of a daughter, Grace Alva, now seven
months old. Mr. King supports the republican party
and, though he is not an aspirant for public office, he takes a live interest
in local public affairs. He belongs to Evergreen Lodge, No. 232, Knights
of Pythias, at Weed, and is popular among his
associates and acquaintances.
