JERRY K. FLORATOS
Jerry
K. Floratos is numbered among those who, starting out
in this country in humble circumstances, have forged ahead by means of industry
and persistence and are today enjoying a fair measure of prosperity. Born in Greece on the 29th of
November, 1902, he is a son of Kosmos and Mary (Fragiscatos) Floratos, farming
folk, who never came to the United States.
Jerry K. Floratos was reared at home to the
age of fourteen years and received his early education in the public
schools. In 1916 he emigrated
to this country and located in McCloud, Siskiyou County, where he entered the
employ of the McCloud Lumber Company, with which he remained about seven
years. In 1925 he came to Weed and
started to work for the Long-Bell Lumber Company, in the box factory. Three months later he was taken seriously ill
and went to San Francisco for treatment.
Remaining there for one and a half years, he made good recovery and was
able to work some. On his return to Weed
he resumed his former position, which he held for about a year, when he went to
Fresno, where he worked in a box factory for a year. On his return to Weed,
he established his present business, his place being known as the Gold State
Pool Room and Soft Drink Parlor. This
place, which is located on the main street of Shastina,
is well furnished and equipped and he enjoys the patronage of the best people
of the community. In 1927 Mr. Floratos was united in marriage to Miss Louise Mineni and they are the parents of three children, Andrew
J., Nicholas J. and Mary J. Mr. Floratos is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose at Weed
and is well liked among his associates.
He is a self-made man in the best sense of the term, for he has made his
way entirely by his own efforts, in the face of discouraging conditions. A law abiding, public-spirited citizen, he is
loyal to his adopted country and is respected by all who know him.
