L. B. COLLINS
L.
B. Collins, one of Yreka’s popular residents and successful business men, in
partnership with Tom O’Riley, conducts an up-to-date pool room and soft drink
parlor. He was born in Colorado, on the
4th of August, 1877, a son of Josiah and Nettie (Kessler)
Collins. He received his education in
the public schools and remained in that state until 1905, when he came to
California. In 1912 he went to
Goldfield, Nevada, where he spent three years and then went to Hornbook,
Siskiyou County, California, where he engaged in the saloon business. He was connected with that business for four
years and then came to Yreka, where he formed a partnership with Tom O’Riley
and engaged in his present enterprise, in which they have been more than
ordinarily successful. They maintain a
nicely equipped and attractive place, which is conducted in an orderly manner,
catering to the best patronage of the town, and are courteous and attentive to
all who enter their place.
Mr.
Collins married Miss Erma Owens, and to them was born a daughter, Wanda, who is
the wife of Byron Mills, now a radio announcer for station KPO, at San
Francisco. For his second wife Mr.
Collins chose Miss Gertrude Hughes, who died in 1919. Mr. Collins as a member of Ashland Lodge, No.
944, B. P. O. E., at Ashland, Oregon, and Yreka Lodge, F. O. E. He takes an active part in local affairs and
he and his partner give their support to all measures for the advancement of
the civic interests of the community.
Mr. Collins is genial and friendly in manner and is well liked by all
who know him.
