M. J. BONY
M. J. Bony is one of Sierra county’s
leading farmers, being the owner of the historic old Nichols ranch of six
hundred acres, in the management of which he is scoring a distinctive
success. He was born in Reno, Nevada,
March 14, 1897, and was reared in that city, receiving his educational training
in its public schools. He learned to be
a locomotive engineer, but his civil career was interrupted by his enlistment
in the United States military service at Reno in December, 1917. He was a ground man with Squadron E, of the
air service, at Rockwell Field, on North Island, near San Diego, until the
close of the war and was honorably discharged in March, 1919. He then accepted a position as railroad
engineer for the Verdi Lumber Company in Nevada, in which C. D. Terwilliger,
now manger of the Clover Valley Lumber Company, of Loyalton, was at that time
interested. Mr. Bony, heeding the advice
of Mr. Terwilliger, came to Loyalton, Sierra County, California, and here
ultimately became interested in a meat market in association with Alex Guidici,
his brother-in-law. In June, 1928, he
bought his present farm, which is one of the pioneer ranches of the Sierra
Valley. He has developed this place into
an up-to-date and successful dairy farm, keeping eighty milch cows. This is one of the best farms in the valley
and Mr. Bony takes a justifiable pride in the success which he is achieving in
its management.
Mr. Bony was united in marriage to
Miss Frances E. Guidici, of Adams Neck, Plumas County, and they are the parents
of two children, Edmund Francis and Raymond Victor. Mr. Bony is a member of Darrel Dunkel Post of
the American Legion at Reno, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks at
that place and the Knights of Columbus.
He is a Democrat in his political views and has shown a commendable
interest in local public affairs, giving his support to those things which
contribute to the general welfare. Mrs.
Bony is a member of the Catholic Church at Loyalton. They are both genial and companionable and
are extremely popular throughout the community in which they reside.
