CHARLES H. CASEY
Charles
H. Casey, who for many years engaged in lumbering, but is now retired, and who
is one of Mount Shasta’s highly respected citizens, was born on the 31st
of March, 1859, and is a son of Robert C. and Armena (McDonald) Casey, who came
to this country from Ireland in 1859.
The mother died at Castle Garden, New York City, at the birth of her son
Charles.
Mr.
Casey received his early education in the public schools of Canada and for one
year attended the University of Michigan, at Ann Arbor. He then turned his attention to lumbering,
which he has followed much of the time since.
He has also mined in Mexico, and has worked as a candy maker a good
deal. He has made twelve trips across
the continent and at the present time is receiving a pension from the government
because of his service in the army during the Spanish-American War. He worked for a while with Nichols &
Shepard as a mechanical engineer and, altogether, has had a varied and
interesting career. He is now retired
from active pursuits, living quietly in Mount Shasta. He is a member of the Masonic order at
Hardington, Nebraska, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Modern Woodmen of
America. In politics he is independent,
voting in accordance with his best judgment as to men and measures, and always keeping
in mind the welfare and advancement of his community.
