WALTON C. WEBB

Walton C. Webb, lawyer, was born in the city of San Francisco, August 28, 1875, and is a son of the late Alonzo and Kate (Cope) Webb. The father was a native of the state of Maryland, and came to California when he was fourteen years old. He studied law here and was admitted to the state bar, after which he established an office in San Francisco. However, his promising career was ended by death in 1876, when he was only twenty-eight years of age. His wife was a native of Kentucky and is also deceased. Her father, the Hon. W. W. Cope, who was born in the state of Kentucky, came to California in pioneer days. He was an attorney of exceptional ability and prominence and served as justice and chief justice of the California supreme court. His son, the Hon. Walter B. Cope, uncle of Walton C. Webb, was a judge of the superior court in Santa Barbara county, California. He moved to San Francisco, where he formed a partnership with A. F. Morrison. Both Judge W. W. and Judge Walter B. Cope served as president of the San Francisco Bar Association.

Walton C. Webb attended the Cosmopolitan grammar school and the Oakland high school, after which he took up the study of his desired profession at the Hastings College of Law and received his diploma with the class of 1899. He was admitted to the California state bar during the same year. He then became connected with the law office of A. F. Morrison, mentioned in the preceding paragraph, and there remained until 1911, since which date he has been practicing alone.

On May 14, 1902, in San Francisco, Mr. Webb was married to Miss Grace Clock, who was born in St. Helena, Napa County, California. To this union there have been born two children, Martha and Sterling. The family home is situated in Berkeley.
