KARL
CHRISTIAN WEBER
Karl
Christian Weber, president and general manager of the Hotel Whitcomb in San
Francisco, was born in the Austrian Tyrol on April 18, 1902; the son of Alois and Alisia (Winner) Weber.
Student at the Academie (sic) of Commerce, Meran,
Austria, 1917 to 1920. He came to the United States in 1930 and was
naturalized in 1935.
Mr. Weber began his hotel career by
serving his apprenticeship in the hotel profession in various European
countries, including Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Riviera, and Great
Britain, 1921 to 1928; with the Hotel De Russie,
Rome, Italy, 1928 to 1930; assistant manager of the St. George Hotel, Brooklyn,
New York, in 1930; manager of Hotel Congress and Senate, St. Louis, Missouri,
1931 to 1941; president and general manager of the Hotel Whitcomb, San
Francisco, California, since 1941.
Mr. Weber has been president of the
Weber Management company (merchandising concern) since 1946; property and ranch
owner near Napa, California,
since 1946; president (since 1951) and co-owner of the New Method
Laundry since 1947.
On April 4, 1950 Mr. Weber was
appointed by the Republic of Austria as its Consul for Northern California and
Nevada.
He is very active in many civic and
philanthropic drives. Member of Navy League of United States of America; Northern
California Hotel Association (former president); San Francisco Chamber of
Commerce; California State Hotel Association (first vice president); San
Francisco Bay Area Council; International Hotel Association; Convention and
Tourist Bureau of San Francisco (member of the Executive Board); Central San
Francisco Association (former president); San Francisco Boys’ Club (director);
Volunteers of America (advisory Board member); Pan American Society (vice president);
National Conference of Christians and Jews (co-chairman); member of the
Bohemian Club and Olympic Club. Mr. Weber is a contributor of articles to trade
publications.
On July 25, 1927, Mr. Weber married
Dorothy Wynne and they have three children, Cynthia, Barbara and Dorothy. Their
home is in San Francisco, California, at 235 Marina Boulevard.
