SAMUEL P. TUGGLE, M. D.
SAMUEL
P. TUGGLE, M. D., whose office is at No. 427 Sutter street, San Francisco, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1856. His parents came from Virginia, where his father’s
family had lived for several generations, and were probably of English
descent. On his mother’s side (nee
Elizabeth Graham) the family were from North Carolina, where they had been
early settlers. Samuel received his
early education in the private schools of his native State, and later, in 1872,
entered the Emory and Henry College of Washington county,
Virginia, where he remained until the end of 1874, graduating after a three
years’ course, and receiving the degree as Bachelor of Arts.
He
then came to California, where he engaged in
mercantile business until 1884, and then commenced the study of medicine,
entering the medical department of the University of California, where he graduated in
1877, after a full three years’ course, and receiving his degree as Doctor of Medicine.
He at once entered into private practice, in which he has since
continued. Dr. Tuggle is now Assistant Demonstrator
of Anatomy in the medical department of the university.
