Edward F. Treadwell is senior member of the law firm of Treadwell, Van Fleet & Laughlin, of San Francisco. He is a native of California, born in 1875 at Woodlawn, Yolo County. After completing his early educational training he entered upon his legal studies at Hastings College of the Law, and graduated with the LL. B. degree in 1897. He was admitted to the California bar the same year and became associated with the firm of Mastick, Van Fleet & Mastick.

 

In 1907 Mr. Treadwell became General Counsel of Miller & Lux, Inc., in which capacity he served until 1922, when he organized the present firm of Treadwell, Van Fleet & Laughlin. They specialize in corporation, probate and water law, and are accorded a representative clientage. Among the important cases which Mr. Treadwell has won is the Miller Inheritance tax case, which involved taxes in excess of $12,000,000.

 

From 1899 to 1901 Mr. Treadwell was employed by the Code Commission to assist in revision of the code, and served in 1901 and 1905 as a member of the California State Legislature. From 1906 to 1909 he was a member of the State Commission on Revenue and Taxation, and from 1908 to 1910 was President of the Board of Trustees of Burlington. He is the author of "Annotated Constitution of California" and "Annotated San Francisco Charter."

 

Mr. Treadwell holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco. He is a Mason, and a member of Phi Delta Phi fraternity, the Commonwealth Club, San Francisco Commercial Club and Presidio Golf Club. In 1900 he married Eulila May Ayres, and they have three children, Earl F., Willard Brewster and Marshall Gwin.
