ARTHUR
L. SOBEY, M. D.
Arthur
L. Sobey, M. D., whose office is at No. 810 Twentieth
street,
San
Francisco, has been a resident of California since 1874, and has
been engaged in the practice of medicine since 1872. He was born in Cornwall, England, in 1851, and received
his early education in the private school of his neighborhood. Later he attended the Independent College at Taunton, England, and the Portland Grammar School at Plymouth. He commenced the study of medicine in
October, 1868, in the St. Bartholomew’s Hospital College, graduating at that
institution in 1873, and becoming a member of the Royal College of
Surgeons. After passing the examination
for membership of this college in 1872, he was appointed Surgeon in charge of
the West London Hospital at Hammersmith, which
he filled for one year and a half. After
a few months devoted to travel on the continent of Europe and as much more time
in travel in the United States, he came to California, locating in San Francisco, and devoting himself
to the practice of his profession. In
1873 he became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians, of London (L. R. C. P. L.)
Dr.
Sobey’s father, Thomas Sobey,
was a farmer of Cornwall, owning quite a large estate, and farming as high as
seven or eight hundred acres. The family are well known in Cornwall and Devonshire. Dr. Sobey is a
member of the State Society of California, and of the County Medical Society of
San Francisco.
