HAROLD G. SNODGRASS

 

 

Harold G. Snodgrass, president of Mercantile Acceptance Corporation of California, was born in Selma, California, on August 16, 1896, the son of David S. and Emma (Cottrell) Snodgrass. He was a student at the University of California, Berkeley, for two years, 1915 to 1917.

            In 1920 Mr. Snodgrass started in business for himself, forming the firm of Snodgrass & Myers, insurance brokers, and has served as president of the firm of Snodgrass, Myers and Nilon, Inc., San Francisco, since 1921. He has also been president of General Acceptance Corporation of California, at San Francisco, since 1923.

            Mr. Snodgrass was vice president of the First National Bank of Selma (California) and also Selma Savings Bank from 1926 to 1927; president of the Mercantile Insurance Company of San Francisco from 1927 to 1929; president of Commercial Finance Corporation, Medford, Oregon, since 1933; president of Oregon Finance Corporation, Portland, Oregon, since 1934; president of General Finance Corporation; president of Guardian Securities Corporation, San Francisco, since 1930; director of Association Western Finance Companies, 1936-39, and vice president in 1939; director of National Association of Sales Finance Companies, 1936-39, vice president and director 1940; vice president of American Finance Conference, 1941-42; member of Executive Committee and district director, 1941-47, director of 12th Federal Reserve District since 1948.

            Mr. Snodgrass served with the United States Naval Officers Material School in 1918. He is a member of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco; the Menlo Circus Club (Atherton, California); and Committee of Twenty-Five (Palm Springs, California).

            On April 26, 1922, he married Cordelia Kent Smith and they have three children: Jean, Constance ad Warren Harold. The family home is at 2000 Washington Street, San Francisco, California.
