RUSSELL
GORDON SMITH
Russell
Gordon Smith, executive vice president of Bank of America, National Trust and
Savings Association, was born June 17, 1894, in San Francisco, California; son
of Henry Clay and Nina Smith. He received his education in the public schools
of San Francisco, California.
Mr. Smith served as vice president
and cashier of the Bank of America, National Trust and Savings Association, San
Francisco, from 1932 to 1938 and as executive vice president since 1939; in
charge of international banking since 1946.
During the First World War Mr. Smith
served as second lieutenant with the Signal Corps, American Expeditionary
Forces, United States Army, 1917-19.
Member of the American Bankers
Association (chairman of Executive Committee of National Bank Division, 1935;
president, 1937-39; member of Admissions Committee Executive Council); American
Institute of Banking; San Francisco Chamber of Commerce (director, 1939-42);
member of Executive Committee of Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939-40.
Member of Bohemian, and Commercial Clubs of San Francisco;
and Meadow Club of Fairfax, Marin County, California.
Mr. Smith married Gladys Schulte on
June 9, 1920, and they have three children: Russell Gordon, Jr., Marjorie (Mrs.
George N. Dunlap) and Douglas A. Their home is in Ross, California.
