SAMUEL M. SHORTRIDGE, JR.
An outstanding member of the younger group of lawyers now engaged in practice in San Francisco is Samuel M. Shortridge, Jr., who is a member of the firm of Shortridge & McInerney, with offices in the Mills building. He was born in San Francisco, August 19, 1900, and is a son of the Hon. Samuel M. and Laura (Gashweiler) Shortridge, the father holding a notable place in national life as United States senator from California.
Samuel M. Shortridge, Jr., attended the public schools of his native city, the College of the Pacific, and the Hastings College of Law. In 1922, when twenty-one years of age, he was admitted to practice in California, and rated as one of the youngest men ever to be admitted to the state bar. He has practiced successfully since that date and, as noted, is now a member of the firm of Shortridge & McInerney.
In club and fraternal affairs, Mr. Shortridge has been very active. He is past president and a member of Menlo Parlor, No. 185, of the Native Sons of the Golden West, and is grand trustee of the grand lodge of this organization, being the youngest man ever elected to this position. He belongs to the Sea Breeze Beach Club of Santa Monica, California; the Uplifters Club of Santa Monica; the Circus Club of Menlo Park; San Francisco Lodge, No. 3, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and the American Legion. He has been interested in republican politics, and is a member of the San Mateo county central committee.
During the World war period, 1917-18, Mr. Shortridge was a seaman in the United States Navy. In local affairs, Mr. Shortridge has lent a cooperative hand and has maintained a public-spirited attitude. He has made many friends, both in and out of his practice, and holds a most favorable place in the community.
