ESMOND
SCHAPIRO
Esmond Schapiro, one of the rising young attorneys and native sons of San Francisco, has here been successfully engaged in general law practice since his admission to the bar in 1919. He was born October 19, 1896, his parents being Bernhard and Birdie (Stern) Schapiro, the former a native of Russia and the latter of New York. Bernhard Schapiro emigrated to the United States as a boy and after a few years in the east came to California in 1893, locating in San Francisco and becoming a well known realtor of this city. He long figured prominently in the local ranks of the republican party and was an alternate delegate to the republican party and was an alternate delegate to the republican national convention in 1916. Fraternally he was affiliated with the various bodies of the Masonic order, including Aahmes Temple of the Mystic Shrine. His death, which occurred in 1930, was the occasion of deep regret among his many friends, for his personal characteristics were such as commanded the confidence and esteem of all with whom he came in contact.
Esmond Schapiro pursued his preliminary education in the Crocker grammar school and the Lowell high school and then entered the University of California, from which he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1918, while two years later the same institution conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence. He was admitted to the bar in 1919 and through the intervening period of twelve years has been accorded a steadily growing clientage as he has demonstrated his ability in the field of his chosen profession. He is engaged in general and corporation practice and he has membership in the San Francisco Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
In early manhood Mr. Schapiro married Gussye Goldbert, a native of Texas. Like his father before him, he is a worthy exemplar of the teachings and purposes of the Masonic fraternity, in which he has attained the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite. He is a member of Starr King Lodge, No. 344, F. & A. M., and Islam Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., of San Francisco, belongs to the Greek letter society Phi Delta Phi and also has membership in the Concordia Club and the Commonwealth Club. His favorite forms of recreation are hiking and handball.
