HORACE
G. PRATT
The history of the Ancient Order of United
Workmen in this jurisdiction is but a record of the career of “Father Pratt,”
the founder of the Order on this coast. He instituted the first lodge,
California, No. 1, was elected Grand Recorder at the institution of the Grand
Lodge, and has held this office continuously for 12 years. During that time
hundreds of thousands of dollars have passed through his hands without a ten
cent deficit. He is a man of studious habits, well versed in Society usage, and
his decisions and interpretation of the law in our Order have almost become stare decisis. As
Grand Recorder and Supreme Representative he has rendered most faithful and
intelligent service, and the high appreciation he is held in by Workmen on this
coast is but a just tribute to the honest and sagacious management of his
official department. He needs no chiseled monument to perpetuate his name as a
great benefactor.
