O’BRIEN, lawyer, is a native of San Francisco, born in 1863.  His father came to the pacific coast in 1853, and his mother in 1858, and they are both living, honored residents of this city.  John P. attended the public schools and entered the high school, and while in the senior class he was obliged to leave on account of illness of his father, to attend to the interests of his business.  When a boy of only eleven years he carried newspapers, beginning with the Chronicle, and continuing four years; he obtained his start in this way.  Then he became clerk in a store.  In 1883 he went to Seattle, engaged in the dry-goods business, and remained there two years; then he returned and entered the law office of Hon. W. H. Jordan, completed his law studies and was admitted to the bar in 1887, and since then he has been engaged in general practice, being associated with E. L. Campbell—legal firm of Campbell & O’Brien.
