MARY M. MOODY, M. D.
MARY
M. MOODY, M. D., whose office is at 944 Valencia street, San Francisco, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1843. She is descended from the sturdy German
stock, who settled in New York State about the year
1700. Her father was one of the pioneer
settlers of Western
Iowa,
having come to that State in 1848, in which year the Doctor was born, where she
was brought up on a frontier farm. Her
father was interested in agriculture and the raising of fine stock up to the
time of his death, in 1876. Dr. Moody
received her early education in the public schools of Council Bluffs, later spending some
time at the University of Iowa, at Iowa city.
After the completion of her course of schooling, she engaged in teaching
in the public schools, in which she continued about six years. Meanwhile she had read medicine more or less
continuously, at one time studying steadily for about one year. In 1876 she came with her husband to California, where, in 1879, she
entered the medical department of the University of California, graduating at that institution in 1882, after a full course of three
years, and receiving her degree as Doctor of Medicine. She at once entered into private practice in San Francisco, where she has since
built up a large patronage. Dr. Moody is
a member of the State Medical Society of California, and of the County Medical
Society of San Francisco. She is
especially interested in the development of favorable hygienic conditions for
humanity, and has made earnest study in that direction.
