RICHARD FRANCIS MOGAN

 

 

      Richard Francis Mogan, attorney at law, with office in the Phelan building of San Francisco, was born in this city April 16, 1868, and is a son of Joseph R. and Sarah Mogan. The father was born in Ireland but left that country when very young and was reared and educated in Boston, Massachusetts. Coming to the west in 1850, he settled in San Francisco and as one of the city’s pioneer merchants he contributed toward its progress along business lines, at the same time winning individual prosperity.

      After mastering the branches of learning taught in the public schools of his native city Richard F. Mogan took a classical course in St. Mary’s College, which awarded him the Bachelor of Arts degree, and was next a student at the University of California, from which he won the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He was admitted to the bar and opened an office in San Francisco, where he has practiced successfully for many years, specializing in probate and inheritance tax matters. In his particular field of endeavor he has long occupied a place of leadership and is inheritance tax appraiser at San Francisco for the state of California.

      Mr. Mogan is a widower and has a son and a daughter: Richard F., who is engaged in the practice of medicine in Los Angeles, California, maintaining an office in the Pacific Mutual building, has a wife and two children. The daughter, Mrs. Constance M. Crary, resides in San Francisco and is the mother of one child. Mr. Mogan is a member of the order of Elks and of the Olympic Club and Stanford Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West. His has been an upright life of untiring industry and quiet devotion to duty and his genuine worth is attested by his fellow citizens and professional colleagues, who speak of him in terms of high regard.
