JOSEPH
ALEXANDER MOORE
Joseph
Alexander Moore, chairman of the Board of Moore & Scott Iron Works, was
born in San Francisco, California, on August 14, 1873; the son of Joseph and
Ann (Castle) Moore. He graduated from the University of California with the
Class of 1898.
Mr.
Moore served his apprenticeship in the machinist trade in Risdon Iron Works, San
Francisco, California. He rose to the position of superintendent of that
company. Left to become associated with his elder brother, Robert S. Moore, and
John Scott, to form the Moore & Scott Iron Works in 1905. When the company
moved to Oakland, California, in 1909, Mr. Moore removed his place of business
to that city and was superintendent, manager, vice president, president, and
currently chairman of the Board.
He holds
membership in the Bohemian Club, The Pacific-Union Club, and the St. Francis
Yacht Club, San Francisco, California.
Mr.
Moore married Mildred Rolph on November 3, 1906. They
have three children: Joseph Alexander, Jr., born January 12, 1908; Jane (Mrs.
Mock), born October 2, 1909; and James Rolph, born
July 21, 1911. The family home is at 2 West Clay Park, San Francisco,
California.
