JOHN
LISGAR MERRILL
John Lisgar Merrill, engineer, was born in Oakland, California,
on March 29, 1903; the son of Charles Washington Merrill and Clara S.
(Robinson) Merrill.
Received the B.S. degree from the
University of California in 1924; (Rhodes Scholar) University of Oxford,
received B.A. degree in 1927.
Mr. Merrill was engineer with Blair
& Company, New York from 1928 to 1932. Manager Flintlock Company, Detroit,
Michigan, 1932-1933. He has been associated with the Merrill Company, San
Francisco, since 1933 as vice president and director of the company; also vice
president and director of Merrill Estate Company; president and director of Merco Centrifugal Co., president and director of The
Merrill-Brose Company, Oakland; vice president and director of Central Natural
Gas Company; director, Thurman Gold Dredging Company, Rockwell Manufacturing
Company, Victor Equipment Company, Bunker Hill and Sullivan Mining and
Concentrating Company, Buffelen Manufacturing
Company, president and director Merco-Trinkle Machine Company.
During World War II, president and
director of Metals Incorporated—engaged in war work from 1942-1945 (Company
dissolved). Also active participant in Merrill Products Company, engaged in war
work, during World War II from 1944-45 (also dissolved).
Member of Phi Delta Theta
Fraternity, American Chemical Society; Pacific Union Club of San Francisco,
University Club, Commonwealth Club, English Speaking Union, Burlingame Country
Club.
Mr. Merrill married Natalie O’Maley on December 17, 1935 and they have three
children—Jacqueline, Steven and Deborah Merrill.
