WALTER McGOVERN

 

 

      Walter McGovern has practiced law in San Francisco for approximately twenty years, and during that period he has achieved an outstanding prestige as a legal counselor and advocate. He was born in San Francisco, December 7, 1884, and is the son of John Francis and Catherine (McLaughlin) McGovern. His father is descended from a well known New York family, members of which were prominent in the public life of that state during the last century.

      Mr. McGovern was educated in Washington, and after completing his legal studies entered upon the practice of law in San Francisco, and has so continued. Because he possesses a sound knowledge of the law and by reason of his untiring energy and industry in the preparation of his cases, as well as a native ability in trial work, he has built up a large clientele. Mr. McGovern has appeared as counsel in many of the most hotly contested and celebrated cases in the courts of California. He served as assistant district attorney in San Francisco in 1918-1919. He has served as orator of the day at a number of civic and patriotic celebrations, and he is the author of several well known articles upon legal subjects and upon topics dealing with California history.

      In politics Mr. McGovern has been active in the affairs of the republican party, having served as a member of the republican state committee. He was married in 1913 to the former Miss Kathryn Neumann and they reside at 2750 Fulton street in San Francisco. Mr. McGovern is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the State Bar Association of California, the American Bar Association, the Lawyers Association of California, the Union League Club, the Commonwealth Club, the California Historical Society and several fraternal societies. His law offices are located at 625 Market street, in San Francisco.
