DANIEL J. McGANNEY

 

 

Daniel J. McGanney, railroad executive, was born in Smartsville, California, March 26, 1896. He is the son of James F. and Anna P. (Quinkert) McGanney.

            His preparatory education was received at Sacred Heart College, San Francisco, California.

            Mr. McGanney’s entire business career has been with the Southern Pacific Company, starting in the accounting department in 1911. He later served in the executive department, transferring to freight traffic department in 1917.

            From 1926 to 1928, Mr. McGanney was assistant general freight agent for Southern Pacific Company, San Francisco, then assistant to freight agent for Southern Pacific Company, San Francisco, then assistant to freight traffic manager from 1928 to 1929, assistant to vice president of System Freight Traffic from 1929 to July 1934, general freight agent and freight traffic manager of Central District and general freight agent for Northwestern Pacific Railroad Company, July 1934, to November 1942; assistant vice president of System Freight Traffic, Southern Pacific Company, from December 1942 to July 1943; general traffic manager of Southern Pacific Lines, Chicago, from August 1943 to January 1951; and assistant to the president of Southern Pacific Company, San Francisco, in 1951. Since January 1952 he has been vice president of Southern Pacific Company, president of Northwestern Pacific Railroad Company, president of San Diego and Arizona East Railway Company, and president of Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railroad Company, with offices in San Francisco.

            He holds membership in the following clubs: Pacific Union, Commonwealth, Commercial (San Francisco); and Chicago Club, Chicago, Illinois.

            Mr. McGanney married Irene West on June 20, 1923, in San Francisco, California. They have three sons and one daughter: Daniel J., Jr., Edward J., Thomas and Janet Irene McGanney.
