EDWARD JOHNSON McCUTCHEN.

Among the members of the California bar who stand for the best traditions of the legal profession a high place is held by Edward J. McCutchen, senior member of the well known law firm of McCutchen, Olney, Mannon & Greene, of San Francisco.

Mr. McCutchen is a native son of California, and was born in 1857 at San Jose. After receiving his preparatory educational training in public schools of his native city he studied for two years at St. Mary's College, of San Francisco, then entered Hastings College of Law, of the University of California. He graduated from the latter institution in 1879 and was admitted to the California bar that same year.

Although he engages in general civil practice Mr. McCutchen specializes in corporation and maritime law. The firm of which he is senior member is one of the largest in California, and is accorded an extensive clientele. In addition to his legal practice he has a number of outside interests, being President of the California Pacific Title Insurance Company and Hobart Estate Company and Director of the Spring Valley Water Company.

For many years Mr. McCutchen has been a member of the American Law Institute, and he is now a member of the council of that organization. He also holds membership in the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco, as well as the Pacific Union Club and various other organizations.
