Biographies
FRED W. LUX, M.D.
FRED W. LUX, M.D., whose office is at No.
703 Market Street, is a native of California,
and has practiced medicine in San Francisco
for the past five years. He was born in Tuolumne
County, in 1861, the son of Fred Lux, a resident
of San Francisco, and one of the
Pioneers of 1849, who has been engaged on the coast in mining operations. For
fourteen years he was Assistant Appraiser of Customs at San Francisco; was
Assemblyman for two sessions from Calaveras to Tuolumne counties; a life long
member of the Republican party, a man honored and prominent in the councils of
that party.
Dr.
Lux received his early education in the public
schools of this city, going through the various grades and passing two years in
the high-school. He later entered the University of the State of California,
where he spent two years in the scientific course. He commenced the study of
medicine in 1880, under the preceptorship of Dr.
Brigham of San Francisco. In 1881
he entered the medical department of Harvard
University, where he graduated
after a four year course, in June 1885, receiving his degree as a Doctor of
Medicine. Dr. Lux at once returned to California and entered
into the practice of medicine in San Francisco,
and has continued since that time. The Doctor holds the position of Assistant
Surgeon of the California Woman’s Hospital. He is a member of the State Medical
Society of California and a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West.
