J.
W. KEENEY, M. D.
J. W. Keeney, M.
D., is a native of the State of Iowa, born at Fort Dodge, a son of Colonel
Charles C. and Mary (McIntosh) Keeney.
Colonel Keeney was a Surgeon in the regular army with the rank of Colonel,
and held the position of Medical Director of the Pacific coast, military
service, and served with distinction in the army. His death occurred here in 1883. Dr. Keeney’s mother afterward married Hon.
William Alvord, of this city.
Dr. Keeney, after
completing his literary education, studied medicine and graduated at the
Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1874.
He held the position of Acting Assistant Surgeon in the United States
army for six years; was attending Surgeon for examination of recruits at this
post. He was also resident surgeon of
the City and County Hospital three years; medical examiner of the police force
for fifteen years; has been visiting physician at St. Luke’s Hospital three
years, and is also a member of the medical societies and several social
organizations.
Dr. Keeney
married a daughter of Judge O. C. Pratt, of San Francisco. They have a son and a daughter.
