WALTER
SAMUEL JOHNSON
Walter
Samuel Johnson, president of the American Forest Products Corporation, was born
November 10, 1884, in East Saginaw, Michigan. He is the son of Alfred A. and
Mary (Calkins) Johnson.
His preparatory education was
obtained at the University of California from which he graduated in 1914 with
the LL.B. degree.
Mr. Johnson began his career as
circulation manager of the San Francisco Bulletin; then president and manager
of Johnson’s, Inc., book stores, from 1906 to 1911. He practiced law in San
Francisco from 1914 to 1917, at which time he enlisted in the United States
Army, World War I, and served with them from 1917 to 1919, receiving his
commission as captain. After the war, in 1919, Mr. Johnson entered into partnership
with the firm of Tarter, Webster & Johnson, Inc. (wholesale lumber) and
became president of same. Later formed the American Box Corporation, which name
was later changed to American Forest Products Corporation, of which he has
served as president since 1928.
Mr. Johnson is also chairman of the
Board of Blagen Lumber Company, and Stockton Box
Company; president of the Associated Lumber & Box Company, Mt. Whitney
Lumber Company, General Box Distributors, and Friden
Calculating Machine Company; vice president of Harbor Box & Lumber Company;
director of Twelfth Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
He holds membership in the Bohemian
Club of San Francisco.
On May 11, 1938, Mr. Johnson married
(2d) Pauline Cook. Their home is at 1951 California Street, San Francisco,
California.
