MAURICE E. HARRISON

Maurice E. Harrison is a member of the well known law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, in San Francisco. He is a native of San Francisco, where his birth occurred August 1, 1888, and is a son of the late Edward C. Harrison and his wife, Mary G. (Bodkin) Harrison.

The Harrison family settled in America before the Revolutionary war. The paternal grandfather of Maurice E. Harrison is Captain Edward Harrison, who commanded a number of merchant and war vessels prior to the Mexican war and during that conflict. He was born in Virginia. Edward C. Harrison, his son, was born in Sydney, Australia, but was reared and educated in Virginia and in Washington, D. C. He came to California in 1872, and was admitted to the practice of law in this state in 1882. He was a graduate of Hastings College of Law in the same year as his admission. In San Francisco, he practiced during the remainder of his life, and met with marked success. He was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church, and supported the democratic party. His death occurred in 1923, when he was sixty-eight years of age. His wife, the mother of Maurice E., was born in San Francisco, and was a daughter of Thomas Bodkin, who was of Irish extraction. By her marriage, she became the mother of four sons and four daughters.

Maurice E. Harrison, who is the oldest of the children born to his parents, attended the grade and high schools of San Francisco and received his more advanced intellectual training in the University of California, from which he was graduated with the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1908. He pursued the study of law in the same institution, and received the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1910. Then he became associated with his father in the practice under the firm name of Edward C. and M. E. Harrison. When the partnership was dissolved by the death of the senior member, he formed an alliance with Gregory A. Harrison, as Harrison & Harrison. This was maintained until January 1, 1925, at which time he assumed a new affiliation which was know as Dunne, Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. In 1926, the present firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison was created, and is now prominently active, with offices in the Crocker building at 620 Market street. They specialize to a great extent in corporation law, but also conduct much civil litigation. Mr. Harrison served as dean of the Hastings College of Law from 1919 to 1925.

Mr. Harrison has been twice married, first on January 10, 1913, in San Francisco, to Agnes B. Welsh, who died October 13, 1917, leaving two children: Ruth Harriett, born October 10, 1913; and Maurice E., Jr., born August 6, 1915. On June 16, 1919, in San Francisco, Mr. Harrison was married secondly to Margaret P. Hayne, who was born February 9, 1888, in Berkeley, California, and is a daughter of Brewton A. and Sally F. (Perkins) Hayne. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison are the parents of three children, namely: Sally Hayne, born November 18, 1920; Margaret Anne, born March 5, 1923; and Lucy Duncan, born June 2, 1926. The family home is situated at 2537 Vallejjo street in San Francisco.

In political affairs of San Francisco and California, Mr. Harrison has always cooperated with the democratic party, and in 1928 he was chairman of the democratic state convention. He is a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
