PRENTIS
COBB HALE, JR.
Prentis Cobb Hale, Jr. was born in San
Francisco, California, on July 30, 1910, the son of Prentis
Cobb Hale and Linda Hoag Bryan. After receiving his preliminary education Mr.
Hale graduated from Stanford University in 1933 with an A.B. degree and
received his LL.B. from Stanford in 1936.
Mr. Hale was admitted to the
California State Bar in 1936 and at that time commenced his merchandising
career with Hale Bros. Stores, Inc. He remained there until 1941, at which time
he became an officer in the United States Navy where he served until 1945. In
1946, he resumed his merchandising career as vice president of Hale Bros.
Stores, Inc. and in 1948 became president of that firm. In 1951, Hales Bros.
Stores, Inc. and Broadway Department Store, Inc. consolidated under the name of
Broadway-Hale Stores, Inc. and Mr. Hale became chairman of the Board of the
corporation, which position he still holds. In 1950, he became and still is
president of Hale Bros. Realty Co.
Mr. Hale is a member of the State
Bar of California; Advisory Committee of the Bank of America, director of
Pacific National Fire Insurance Company; vice president and director of the
Community Chest of San Francisco. His clubs include Bohemian Club, Pacific
Union Club, San Francisco Golf Club and Presidio Golf Club in San Francisco and
the California Club of Los Angeles.
He married Marialice
P. King in San Jose, California on September 17, 1936 and his children are
Hilary, Prentis Cobb III, Linda and Hamilton Bryan.
