JOHN
OSCAR GANTNER
John
Oscar Gantner, president of Gantner
Mattern Company, Inc., was born in San Francisco,
California; son of John and Nannette Solome (Kalenbach) Gantner.
His education was obtained at the
California Military Academy at Oakland and at business
college.
Mr. Gantner
began working at the age of eighteen, 1886. In 1900 he organized the
corporation of Gantner and Mattern
Company, manufacturers of knitted wear. Since then the company has absorbed
several knitting plants, including the J. J Pfister
Knitting Company which was founded in 1876; originators and patentees of the “Gantner Wikies” and other sport
apparel; now designated as a defense plant, manufacturing for the Army and
Navy.
Member of United States Chamber of
Commerce, California and San Francisco Chambers of Commerce; St. Francis Yacht,
Olympia, and Commonwealth Clubs (all of California); Masonic Order (Knights
Templar, Shriner).
Mr. Gantner
married Adela I. Frisby in 1908 and they have three
children: John Oscar, Jr., Vallejo F. and Adela Carrillo.
