FRED L.
DREHER
Fred L. Dreher, who has spent the greater part of his life in San Francisco, establishing an enviable reputation as a corporation lawyer, was born in Lenzburg, St. Clair county, Illinios, December 10, 1878, a son of Peter J. and Margaret (Griebel) Dreher, of whom more extended mention is made above. In 1886, when eight years of age, he came to California with his parents, who settled in Pomona, where he pursued his education in the grammar and high schools. Thereafter he was a student at Pomona College for two years and then for a similar period attended the University of California, from which he received the degree of Bachelor of Letters in 1901. He next entered the Hastings College of Law, affiliated with the University of California, and received the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1904. In that year he represented Hastings as a speaker on the commencement program at the University of California. Since his admission to the bar he has engaged in the practice of law, devoting much of his time to corporation work, and is retained as counsel by many prominent business firms of San Francisco. He practiced alone until January 1, 1930, when he formed a partnership with J. Ed McClellan, who had been associated with Mr. Dreher for five years previously. He maintains offices at 485 California street and has been a resident of the city since 1901. In its financial circles he is well known as a director of the Bank of America and also of the Bank of America National Trust & Savings Association.
Mr. Dreher was married to Miss Mae Starkweather, a member of one of the old families of San Francisco, and their children are Robert J. and Rita Marian. The residence of the family is at 736 Third avenue.
Fraternally Mr. Dreher is affiliated with the Scottish Rite bodies of Masonry and with the Mystic Shrine. He enjoys the social side of life, belonging to the Commonwealth and Olympic Clubs, and is a republican in his political views. He has never been attracted by the honors and emoluments of public office, concentrating his attention upon his legal work, and at all times has conformed his practice to the highest ethical standards of the profession.
