EDWIN BALDWIN De GOLIA

 

 

Edwin Baldwin De Golia, president of Sir Francis Drake Hotel Company, was born in Placerville, California, on March 17, 1869; son of Darwin and Lavinia (Baldwin) De Golia.

            After graduating from high school in 1886 he was a student at University of California, 1889.

            Mr. De Golia began his career in 1890 in the insurance business; then president of Central Eureka Mining Company from 1898 to 1908. In 1903 he organized the Atolia Mining Company of which he was president from 1903 to 1911. In the insurance business from 1906 to date. Currently carrying on an insurance brokerage business.

            Mr. De Golia financed the building of the Huntington and Cathedral Apartment Hotels at San Francisco; builder and sole owner of the Maurice Hotel; also owner of the President Hotel at Palo Alto, California; President of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel Company of San Francisco; part owner and operator of the St. Francis Hotel of San Francisco. Director of California State Hotel Association of Northern California, and California State Hotel Association.

            President of gold dredging companies operating in California; vice president and director of Hillcone Steamship Company and Deconhill Shipping Company; director of Parr-Richmond Terminal Company; chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Oakland Bay Bridge from its inception until the Toll Bridge Authority was established by Act of California Legislation then was on the Advisory Committee until its completion. Vice president of the Western Hotels, Inc., who operate a chain of 28 hotels on the Pacific Coast; past president of California State Automobile Association; director of American Automobile Association, Washington, D.C.

            Mr. De Golia is a Republican; Episcopalian; Mason (3rd degree); and member of the Olympic Club of San Francisco.

            On March 18, 1892 he married Nettie Gates (died in 1910); children: Harold Gates, Edwin B. (deceased) and Yvonne B. (Mrs. H. J. Cornish). In July of 1912 he married (2nd) Eva Rockwell.
