COOK DANIELS
Troy
Cook Daniels, dean of College of Pharmacy, University of California, was born
in Worth, Missouri, on August 27, 1899, the son of Alfred B. and Carrie Jane
(Long) Daniels.
Dr. Daniels has been in academic
work since he received his B.S. from the University of Michigan in 1923. He was
first an instructor (1923-25) at the State College of Washington. After
receiving his Ph.D. degree from the University of Indiana in 1929, he moved to
California to take up his appointment as Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at the
University of California College of Pharmacy. Later he
became a full professor of pharmaceutical chemistry and was appointed dean of
the College in 1944. He is also a member of several University committees
helping to plan and guide the construction of the various new buildings in the
University’s Medical Center.
Honorary positions include the
following: Chairman, Organic and Biochemistry Division, California Section of
the American Chemical Society, 1942; chairman, California Section, American
Chemical Society, 1944; member of the Editorial Advisory Committee of the
American Pharmaceutical Association from 1944 to 1952; member of the Executive
Committee of the American Association of Colleges Pharmacy, 1945-47; member of
the Board of Directors of Northern California Branch of American Pharmaceutical
Association for the past eight years; member of the American Council on
Pharmaceutical Education from 1948 to date; member of the Committee on World
Congress for pharmaceutical Education, 1949-50; member of the Revision
Committee of the U. S. Pharmacopoeia, 1950 to date; president-elect of the
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, 1951-52; member of the San
Francisco Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Medical Matters relating to Disaster,
Sub-committee on Decontamination. Dr. Daniels was one of five members on the
American Pharmaceutical Association’s Mission to Japan in 1949 to study
Japanese pharmacy under the auspices of the U. S. Army.
Dr. Daniels is a member of several
Associations and fraternities among which are the following: American Chemical
Society, American Pharmaceutical Association, American Association for the
Advancement of Science, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, Sigma
Xi, New York Academy of Sciences, Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Upsilon and Phi Delta
Chi.
