RUSSELL L. CURTIS
Russell L. Curtis, vice president of Western Division of The Dow Chemical Company, was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on May 25, 1890; the son of Elmore E. and Nellie (Carter) Curtis. He majored in chemistry at Oberlin College receiving the degree of A.B. in 1913.
Mr. Curtis was a chemist for Consumers Power Company Artificial Gas Plant, Saginaw, Michigan, from 1913 to 1916. From 1916 to 1917 he was construction superintendent for Consumers Power Company Artificial Gas Plant at Flint, Michigan; superintendent for American Bromine Company, Midland, Michigan, from 1917 to 1922. He was in the sales department of The Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Michigan, from 1922 to 1939, general manager for Western Division of The Dow Chemical Company, San Francisco, California, since 1939, director since 1948, and vice president since 1949. Also member of Board of Directors of Oliver United Filters, Inc.
He holds membership in the Bohemian Club, Cercle de L’Union, and Merchants Exchange Club, all of San Francisco, California.
Mr. Curtis married Gertrude Edwards on September 15, 1915; children: Sally Curtis, born in 1916 (deceased, 1951) and James E. Curtis, born in 1917.
