ALLEN LAWRENCE CHICKERING
Allen Lawrence Chickering, lawyer, was born in Oakland, California, on September 20, 1877; the son of Henry and Caroline Amelia (Clapp).
His preparatory education was obtained at the University of California, from which he graduated in 1898 with the degree of A.B. His legal education was obtained at Harvard Law School (1898-1900) and University of California, receiving the LL.B. degree from the latter in 1901. He was admitted to the California bar in 1901.
Mr. Chickering has been in law practice in San Francisco, California, since 1901, where he now is partner in the firm of Chickering & Gregory. He is vice president and director of the San Diego Gas & Electric Company; director and member of Executive Committee of Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company, and Southern Pacific Company; director of Standard Pacific Gas Line, Inc., Caterpillar Tractor Company, Schmidt Lithograph Company, Founders Fire and Marine Insurance Company, and Riverside Cement Company; chairman of the board of trustees of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden; member of General Executive Board of all Liberty Loan Drives, 12th Federal Reserve District, during World War; and is trustee of Hastings College of Law, San Francisco.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, Bar Association of San Francisco, The State Bar of California, The Association of the Bar of the City of New York; California Historical Society; Delta Kappa Epsilon and Phi Delta Phi fraternities; and the following clubs: Pacific Union, Commercial (San Francisco); Harvard, Lawyers (New York). He is a Republican.
On May 10, 1903, Mr. Chickering married Alma H. Sherman; children: Mary C. (Mrs. Harold R. Erdman); Allen L.; William W. (deceased); Sherman; William H. (killed in action, Lingayen Gulf, Philippine Islands, January 6, 1945.)
