DOCTOR
LOREN ROSCOE CHANDLER
Loren
Roscoe Chandler, dean of Stanford University School of Medicine, is the son of
Wilbur Fiske and Edna Marie (Goble) Chandler. He was born April 22, 1895, in
Selma, California.
Received the A.B. degree from
Stanford University in 1920 and the M.D. degree in 1923.
Dr. Chandler received surgical
training at Stanford University Hospital, 1923 to 1925, member of their
Department of Surgery since 1923 and professor of Surgery and dean of School of
Medicine since 1933. Also director and vice president of College of Physicians
and Surgeons, School of Dentistry, San Francisco, since 1937.
From 1917 to 1919, during World War
I, Dr. Chandler served at the Base Hospital Number 35, United States Army, and
is now Commander of the Medical Corps, United States Naval Reserve.
Fellow of American
College of Surgeons. Member of California Academy of Medicine (vice
president, 1941; president, 1942); Association of American Medical Colleges
(vice president, 1937-38; president, 1941-42); American Medical Association;
Pacific Coast Surgical Association; American Surgical Association; Nu Sigma Nu
and Zeta Psi Fraternities; Bohemia Club and Menlo Country Club.
Dr. Chandler is a contributor on
medical and surgery education to professional journals. He is a Protestant and
a Republican.
On November 16, 1921, Dr. Chandler
married Elva Beal and has two sons, Craig Clayton and Loran.
